The Brief That Started It All
We partnered with MESA, a leading alternative MBA institution, to design and deliver their Build Your Own Product hybrid program. The goal was ambitious yet focused: equip students with hands-on skills to design, build, and launch functional MVPs using Bubble’s no-code platform without relying on traditional coding.
The Problem They Needed Solved
MESA wanted a workshop that didn’t just teach concepts but pushed students to build. The program had to simulate real-world product development, giving participants a chance to explore ideation, prototyping, and execution all within short time. The output needed to be tangible: working applications they could showcase.
What We Built Together
Over the course of the program, students developed a suite of mobile-first applications on Bubble, each targeting a different real-world problem.
Fitness Tracker
A mobile-first app designed to make calorie tracking simple and engaging. Users could either upload an image of their food or enter details manually. An AI engine then analyzed the input, estimated calories consumed, and compared it against activity-based calorie burn. Beyond tracking, the app provided personalized suggestions to help users improve their diet and lifestyle. This gave students exposure to AI-powered image recognition, data logging, and recommendation systems.
Attendance Tracker
Built for classrooms and training sessions, this app automated attendance through face detection technology. Instead of manual roll calls, students’ faces were scanned via camera, and attendance was logged instantly. It reduced human error, saved time, and introduced students to real-world applications of image processing within Bubble, which is uncommon in no-code environments.
Partner Finance Manager
A lightweight but powerful tool for couples or partners to manage shared finances. The app allowed manual entry of expenses, with options to tag contributions to individuals or partners. Users could track balances, view summaries, and manage repayment or shared plans. The build introduced learners to the complexity of financial data management, multi-user records, and the importance of transparency in shared tools.
Activity Buddy
This was designed as a social accountability app where users could connect, assign each other small tasks, and track progress. A gamified leaderboard made the experience engaging by rewarding consistency and teamwork. The project gave students a taste of building features that combined social interaction, productivity, and gamification all within the no-code framework.
Project Management Tool
Modeled after platforms like Jira, this app offered a simplified project management experience for small teams. Users could create projects, assign tasks, track progress, and collaborate through a clear interface. The emphasis was on ease-of-use, proving that even complex workflows like task boards and progress tracking could be delivered in a week-long no-code sprint.
Built for Learning, Built for Speed:
All five applications were designed for mobile and fully built within short time. The focus was on rapid prototyping, showing students how quickly they could move from idea to MVP using no-code tools. Each project highlighted a different application of Bubble, from AI integrations to collaboration features.
Why It Matters
This wasn’t just a workshop , it was a launchpad. Students walked away not just with concepts, but with working apps they had designed and built themselves. By combining practical learning with no-code power, the program gave participants the confidence and tools to approach product building like modern founders.
